Casa Bossi

NomeDescrizione
IndirizzoBaluardo Quintino Sella, 16
NOVARA (NO)
In 1859, not long after he had acquired the Ba-roque building, Luigi Desanti contacted architect Alessandro Antonelli and asked him to plan the restoration and enlargement of the structure. The project encompasses the preexisting construction, maintaining its residential portions and restoring parts of the garden, with a stunning overall effect. The owner died after only fi ve years, and didn’t get to enjoy the palace he had commissioned for long. In 1880 the palace was purchased by Carlo Bossi, and from that moment on it acquired the new owner’s last name as a factor of identifi cation. The building is one of the city’s best examples of civil architecture; it stands in a privileged position, along the city’s Western rim. In the portions of the building that are reserved to the servants’ quarter building materials change, but the quality remains constant, making this a fi ne example of how bold avant-garde and socially-conscious architecture can blend into one struc-ture. Many intellectuals and artists, such as painter An-tonio Calderara, Futurist artist ‘Barbara’, architect Luigi Vietti, engineer Arialdo Daverio, poet and journalist Ignazio Scurto, as well as writer Seba-stiano Vassalli, have been inspired by the building.
