The ancient Parish church of San Genesio (also known by the local people as the church of evil) is situated outside the inhabited centre; its structural conditions are devastating. The church was already mentioned as head parish church and reminded again in the year 1132 in a bull of Innocenzo II and again in the Consignationes" of 1347. During the pastoral visit of 1595, Bascapè describes it as follows: "..di struttura antica, a tre navi con pavimento adatto, ma solo nella nave centrale, mentre nelle altre è rustico…" (…of ancient structure with a nave and two aisles with suitable floor, but only in the nave while it is rustic in the aisles….”). The façade is provided with three doors, one for the nave and the other for each aisle, the four windows will be closed after the bishop’s orders, except for one, which will have an “orbiticularis” shape. Yet, it appears that the nave is subdivided from the aisles by big pilasters and in the choir behind the high-altar there is the grave with the relics of San Genesio. After the bishop Speciano’s description, the belfry looks “de novo aedificatum” (recently built up). A porch, covered with tiles and supported with serizzo-stone columns, faces the façade. It stands next to the Baptistery of San Giovanni, which is described to be large and round. It can be reached through three steps downward and is covered with a pyramidal ciborium (unfortunately demolished in 1840). In 1843, the façade and the choir were demolished was demolished and the orientation was changed. Today, the ancient rural parish church has only one large nave with a deep presbyter, were a little sacristy opens. Outside, a stretch of walls is still visible in the south side with its hanging archlets in group of two marked with pilaster strips. The building walls are rather irregular and composed of cobble stones and brick fragments arranged in horizontal courses with short herringbone stretches. Examining the remains of the wall structure, critics date the building to the first half of the XI century. In its interior is the ancient sepulchre of the Della Porta Family, just above an ancient fresco, unfortunately in bad conditions, depicting a delicate Madonna in throne with child, San Genesio, the Archangel Michael piercing a snake and a Saint (scarcely identifiable) chasing out the demon. Another 18-century fresco covers the vault of the nave.
