The ancient San Giacomo’s oratory stands outside the village along the road leading to Veruno. The available of the church are poor, the first ones date back to a pastoral visit Bishop Bascapé paid in 1595. Originally the building was smaller than today. In the years 1624-25 it was enlarged: a new span and a balustrade were added. In the XIX century it was used as lazaretto ( pest-house). The frescoes decorating its interior are valuable and represent a significant witness of the pictorial trends of Novara in the XV and XVI century. The fresco depicting the “mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine with the Devine Child” sitting in the arms of the Virgin Lady painted by an anonymous artist “…de Burgimainerio pixit” or “Master of Borgomanero” is sensational. The oldest frescoes are those decorating the apse zone and its lateral walls of the second span ascribed to Giovanni de Campo and dated to the year 1473. The depiction of Sant Eligio’s miracle is peculiar; the painting is set in the workshop of a locksmith where the saint is reattaching the leg to a disabled horse under the owner’s unbelieving eyes.
