The villa, seat of the Achille Marazza Foundation (1894-1967), is located in the centre of Borgomanero close to the railway station, in the middle of a vast park. Marazza was a munificent benefactor, outstanding politician of the catholic area, president of the venerable Fabbrica Del Duomo di Milano (Building of the Cathedral of Milan). He bequeathed all the family possessions to the Municipality of Borgomanero, so that the owner’s house would be transformed into a “public library and house of culture”. The library is enriched with important donations of the Molli and Tornelli families. Today its huge patrimony of books, prints, papers, parchments, incunabula has transformed it into a true cultural appeal for both citizens and visiting foreigners. The building represents the prototype of the noble country mansion of the Novara district. The building is composed of three bodies being orthogonal between them, in such a way to form an “H”-shaped plan. The owner’s residence is located in the centre, with the main façade being oriented southward. The service buildings are situated on both sides. The main body is over three storeys high; it has a three span porch in the ground floor and an arcade in the second floor that repeats the same repartition of the porch. Three windows with moulded stone balcony and wrought iron railings, instead, open at the second floor level. Some rooms still show decorated wooden ceilings, elegant marble fireplaces, valuable furniture and shelves. A vast park that has become public, rich in century-old oaks and chestnut-trees gives the Foundation’s guests a relaxing and quiet atmosphere.
