Parrocchiale di San Bernardo
The parish church in Prato Sesia, dedicated to San Bernardo da Mentone, with three naves, is quite old even though we don’t know its precise year of foundation. During the past centuries it underwent important transformations: the front porch was knocked down and in 1908 the ancient façade was rebuilt (according to Marietti’s design).
Inside it houses two chapels: the Rosario Chapel on the right is the most interesting, where the canvas Madonna del Rosario is kept, attributed to Giacinto Gimignani, a Tuscan artist who studied in Rome; the Madonna del Rosario and San Domenico was commissioned by the Furgotti family in the early 1600’s : it depicts Virgin Mary on a throne worshiped by the kneeling Saint. In 1994, during restoration works, different frescoes came to light, artefacts that had been hidden for ages under a layer of plaster. These frescoes , dated 1713, depict the life of Jesus and they are attributed to Tarquinio Grassi, from Romagnano but who worked mostly in Novara and Milano.
