Oratorio di San Gerolamo
Cascina Avogadro stands just outside the residential area of Vignale, on the Cavour channel bank. Its name derives from the ancient Novarese family, the owners. The complex is composed of rural buildings and a devotional oratory, dating back to the XV century. The oratory dedicated to Saint Gerolamo is made precious by contemporary wall-paintings, narrating the life of the titular Saints and also of other saints close to the hearths of the local community. The scenes depicted on the south wall, representing three knights at the gaming table, are unusual as they escaped the strict control of the Counter-Reformation. According to the critics, the authors of this cycle should be searched inside the De Bosis’ workshop, painters close to the Avogadro family.
