Villa Clerici Cicogna e parco

NomeDescrizione
IndirizzoNella zona nord di Trecate
TRECATE (NO)
The imposing villa is situated north of the central nucleus of the village in a place wrongly called “the castle”. Its building dates back to the half of the eighteenth century after the will of Marquis Giorgio Clerici, who had just strengthened his privileges in the fief of Trecate. The Marquis was a curious person: not only Mary Therese of Austria bestowed the title of Ambassador at the Holy Seat on him, but he provided for an infantry regiment stationed in a farm on the Lombard side of Ticino River, in Castelletto di Cuggiono. The marquis dissipated all his fortune quickly, as much that, after his death, his daughter had to sell this property to the counts Annoni, who became related with the family Cicogna Mozzoni. Some scholars suppose the villa has been designed by the architect Francesco Croce, well-known in that period in the Milan territory. The villa sums up the characteristics typical of the 18th-century aristocratic buildings, which were characterized not only to the functionality, but also, and above all, to the elegance of the architectural and decorative forms. Both side wings lowered to two storeys and united to the central three-storey body, form a sole building. The inner halls, today partially restored and adapted to municipal library, have only some wall-paintings and decorations on the wooden ceilings, the doors and the window shutters to witness the vestiges of the past.
The English garden, rich in plant essences and today Public Park, is greatly fascinating. Outside there is a restored Italian garden, limited by box-tree beds and flanked by ancient hornbeam wood. Both monumental wrought iron gates, surmounted with the Cicogna family’s monogram, are important.

ATL Novara
