From Momo through a country path you can easily reach Sologno passing near the church now cemetery of Saints Nazario and Celso to get to the church of San Salvatore di Caltignaga, in view of the castle.
Across the right bank of the Terdoppio you can reach the Cascina Lualdi and Isarno with the church of Saints Cosma and Damiano, not far from the remains of the Roman aqueduct. Once in Vignale through the Via delle Rosette you get to the Bulwark, the Basilica of San Gaudenzio, the Broletto and finally the Cathedral of Novara.
Prof. Alberto Temporelli, says that Novara was a fundamental stage of the road from Sempione to Mortara. It was a crossroads that served as a sorting station for caravans heading east to Milan and Venice, west to Turin-Moncenisio-Passo del Gran San Bernardo, north to the Simplon pass (via Francisca Novarese), south to Mortara-Pavia-Roma (via Romea). We traced the ancient path that descended from the Simplon pass to the city of Novara. But the ancient road begins further north, at Martigny where the Via Francigena passes. Deviating to Sion and along the Valais you get to Brig to climb to Sempione.
