Casa Giovanetti
Antonelli is commissioned to work on the residence that overlooks on Porta Sempione (today known as Corso Cavour, n.17) by Giacomo Giovanetti, who intends to have the residence he just bought fixed (previously residence of the Bollini family). The attorney is one of the most well-known figures of Novara and he will obtain an important role during the reform season introduced by Carlo Alberto; as a king’s councillor, he introduced liberalism in economy and a law that would regulate the town and provincial elections, and finally the he was the brain of some important decisions included in the Albertine Statute.
The structure, on which Stefano Ignazio Melchioni (1765-1837), protagonist of the urban innovation of the early eighteen-hundreds, had already worked, today appears difficult to be interpreted due to the alterations it suffered through times.
The courtyard is worth mentioning: the facades carry the characteristics of three different architecture orders, typical of the architect’s activity during this period, also adopted in some construction sites in Torino.
